Famous Market at Mandalay City

Being the second capital and capital of Upper Myanmar and the capital of Mandalay Division, Mandalay, the principal centre of transportation, is located as the main region of Upper Myanmar in trading and commerce.

Under the guidance of the State leaders, in accordance with two of the four economic objectives, namely, "proper evolution of the market-oriented economic system" and "the initiative to shape the national economy must be kept in the hands of the State and the national economy must be kept in the hands of the State and the national peoples", MCDC has built markets, which meet the characteristics of the capital. There are 32 markets and 7 tax-free markets in the whole city.

The Zegyo Market

It is situated between 84th and 85th Roads, between 26th and 27th Roads, in Chan Aye Thazan township, and was opened on 31-7-94. It is a new six-storey building with 744 shops. The central building has six storey while the other attached building have four stories. Buyers and customers can use 6 escalators and 2 elevators.

On the ground floor, textile and fabric, books and stationery and medicines are available. On the first floor, there are goldsmith and jewellery shops, on the second and third floors, official materials shops, India-make and china-make commodities shops; on the fourth floor, a playground; and on the fifth floor, the Grand Restaurant.

It comprises the in-line Zegyo building, sheds and stalls. The largest market in Mandalay, it is one where there take place the influx and exchange of various products and commodities from upper and lower Myanmar and foreign commodities imported through the border-line trading system.

The Yadanabon Market ( Firing at 2008 February 25 and now build that again)

It is situated between 77th and 78th roads, between 33rd and 34th roads, in Chan Aye Thazan Township. It is a five storey building, and was opened on 15-6-2000.

On the ground floor there are 1,533 shops; on the first floor, 1,310 shops; and on other floors spacious shops. On the ground floor, in Ka and Kha Sheds, fabric and textile are available; in Ga Shed, ready-made clothes; in Ga-gyi shed, flasks, chinaware's, cosmetic, kitchen wares, electric goods and aluminum wares. On 34th road, there are groceries and dry goods shops; on the 33rd road, textile and commodities; and on 77th road, stores and footstalls, Shoppers can use 4 escalators, 2 lifts for luggage, 4 lifts for customers, 2 spiral staircase, 1 trolley way and 1 emergency landing. Its location puts it in closet proximity to Mandalay Railway Station.

The Kai-tan Market

It is situated on 28th Road, between 86th and 87th roads, Chan Aye Thazan Township, and was opened on 31-7-97. There are 315 shops in five stories. On the ground floor, fruits and vegetables are available; on the first floor; pounded fish, dry fish and fishery products as main sales commodities. To the east is located the New Zeygyo Market.

The Nan-She Market

It is situated on 19th Road, between 63rd and 64th Roads, Aung Mye Thazan Township and opened on 2-5-97. It has three stories; on the ground floor, there are 192 shops and on the first floor; 192 shops. It is a market of fruits, vegetables and farm produce form the rural areas to the east of Mandalay.

The Mingala Market

It is located on 30th Road, between 72nd and 73rd roads, Chan Aye Thazan Township and was opened on 26-3-98. It is four-storey building; on the ground floor, there are 480 shops; on the first floor, 223 shops; on the second floor, 28 apartment rooms, 218 temporary shops, 2 spacious one-storey rooms and on the third floor, 28 apartment rooms. Shoppers can use 4 escalators, 2 elevators, and the driveway going up to the first floor, where there is enough space for parking 60 vehicles. It is closet proximity with Mandalay General Hospital, Mandalay Railway Station and Mandalay Institute of Medicine.

The Thiri Mandalar Market

It is situated between 22nd and 23rd roads, in east Thiri Mandalar Quarter, Aung Mye Thazan Township, was opened on 18-9-97. It comprises 9 three-storey buildings and an octagon-shape six-storey building. There are 2,318 shops in this market. It is a center of trading for the regional products of the rural areas along the Ayeyarwaddy. To the north of the market is the Thiri Mandalar Highway Terminal and to the west is the Aung Mye Mandalar sports ground.

The Man Thiri Market

It is situated on 86th road, between 25th and 26th roads, Aung Mye Thazan Township. It was opened on 17-7-2000. It was a renovated building. It comprises three stories; on the ground floor there are 260 shops; on the first floor, 178 shops and on the second floor, spacious shops. It is close to the Zegyo Market, the in-line Zegyo Market building and the Kai-tan Market.

The Maha Aung Mye Yadana Market

It is situated between 39th and 40th roads, between 87th and 88th roads, Maha Aung Mye Township. It was opened on 26-2-2000. It comprises 178 temporary square shape brick platforms and 1,113 shops.
